Berlin-based Northeast Utilities and a Massachusetts utility have received approval from federal energy regulators to spend $1 billion to build a high-voltage power line to a hydroelectric plant in Quebec, allowing the export of 1,200 megawatts of “clean” power to New England.

TENAGA Nasional Bhd (TNB), is plannning to increase its hydropower generation in line with government policy for more renewable energy and reduced dependence on coal and fossil fuel.

TNB’s general manager (projects-hydro) of its Asset Development Department, Generation Division, Ir Mior Shahar Mior Nazri said the company is currenty planning two new hydro projects in Hulu Terengganu and in Ulu Jelai,Pahang for additional hydropower generation capacity.
