You are what you ate which is reflected
on your physical and mental health and your appearance. Nutrition
determines the body's internal chemistry and that chemistry determines,
in a large part, the quality and resiliency of virtually every organ,
cell and system in the body.
Everything from the condition of your
skin to the quality of your bones, brain and connective tissue is
determined in part by what you eat. Thus eating habits are a major
determinant in how quickly you begin to see and feel the effects of
ageing.
It is important to break the following
negative food habits that can age you from the inside out and ways to
break the habits.
-
Junk Food
Avoid food with hydrogenated or partially
hydrogenated oils as these fats cause internal inflammation and lead to
the body's inability to regenerate organs and shorten lifespan;
-
Sugar
Avoid refined sugar - consume honey and
maple syrup. When the body is unable to break down large amounts of
sugar, it will in the process makes you look older by creating
wrinkles. The sugar molecules gum up the collagen in your skin which
makes it less elastic and wrinkling it faster, and if it's damaged it
won't heal as quickly;
-
Carbohydrate Overload
Consume a diet rich with complex
carbohydrates such as legumes, vegetables and 100% whole grains. Excess
carbohydrates not only stresses the body but also creating a pendulum
effect i.e., a burst of sugar followed by insatiateness. This can age
the body by leading to type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome and heart
disease.
-
Eating only when Hungry
Keep healthy snacks on hand and do not
wait until hunger trigger your ghrelin. The hormone ghrelin is released
when your brain senses hunger. It can take up to half an hour to
normalize your ghrelin levels and will most likely trigger over-eating
and that can lead to obesity; and
-
Eating while Stressed
Relax while eating. Cortisol, a stress
hormone, can prevent digestion. It impact the stomach's acidity levels
preventing nutrient absorption and can lead you to make unhealthy food
choices and overeat.
