Contact Lens Related Ocular Conditions

Due to irregular and improper cleaning of contact lenses and not using the recommended solutions, both bacterial and fungal infections can occur.

Some contact lens related ocular conditions are due to:

  • Adverse response to contact lens solution - Superficial punctate - keratitis and Superior limbic keratoconjunctivitis.

  • Contact lens solution preservative toxicity - Corneal infiltration.

  • Adverse response to contact lens solution preservative - Pseudodenriform - Lesion of the cornea.

  • Contact lens solution preservative hypersensitivity - Conjunctiva - hyperemia and edema.

  • Improper contact lens care - Hydrophilic contact - lens with protein deposition and mucoprotein lipid deposition.

  • Immune response to contact lens wear - Giant papillary conjunctivitis.

  • Contact lens care non-compliance - Infectious keratitis.

  • Using tap water or homemade saline - Acanthamoeba keratitis.

Note: Keratitis = Inflammation of the Cornea.
