Drinking RED WINE may help fight inflammation in the body, according to research publish by scientists at the University of Glasgow.

Researchers found that resveratrol, an antioxidant found in red wine, protected mice when they were exposed to a strong inflammatory agent. Mice that were not pre-treated with resveratrol developed a serious reaction similar to sepsis, an inflammatory disorder.

The research found that resveratrol is capable of blocking 2 major proteins in the body that trigger inflammation. Strong acute inflammatory diseases such as sepsis are difficult to treat and many die every day due to lack of treatment.

Moreover, many survivors of sepsis develop a very low quality of life due to organ dysfunction, low blood pressure or insufficient blood flow to one or more organs.

This university research is aim at identifying red wine as the therapeutic treatment of life-threatening inflammatory diseases.

Most of these results have not been fully replicated in humans.

Resveratrol, an antioxidant found in red wine, has been widely associated with health benefits ranging from anti-ageing, boosting anti-viral treatments, prevent blood clots to combat cancer. This antioxidant is found in the skin of grapes, greater quantities in red than white grapes.

Currently resveratrol is also found in Japanese Knotweed.
